I was so sure I would manage all kinds of tasks while Baz was away, but I have been hit by cold-snap apathy over the last few days. Waiting nearly an hour for a cab to work this morning and the ensuing migraine were just the icing on the cake
I think it’s time to reflect on a previous project which I haven’t followed up on properly: the sunburst cabinet
In time for Christmas, it reached its potential as a drinks cabinet. It totally owns the living room at home and will not be going to France, being simply too British
I have avoided any work to the wood itself. This cabinet is in great nick and I love its patina. Mirrors make it more glamorous, as does a shelf in the lower cupboard 
I added a cheap bath plug chain to give a stable working space on the fold-down door
I love how the top opens up. It’s very useful and I’m amazed at how many bottles I can stuff into it. The top is for beer and other small bottles, but it’s the bottom where the magic really happens
It’s such a sweet little cupboard and I love that something so basically made has, with very little effort, become such a star

What an absolute beauty! Very British as you rightly point out and none the worse for that …. I must advise you to watch ‘La Vache’ if you haven’t already because you will then understand why I am used by the ‘Absolut Pears’ so beautifully displayed. Chapeau Madame – as I have told you repeatedly, you have superb taste 😊 🎓

Not this time! ‘La Vache’ is a film – it was released last year and absolutely adorable! https://youtu.be/D7FBrFUsNAg . There is an element of Poires Williams in it (not quite pear vodka but along the same lines) 😊

Oh, now I actually remember seeing the posters for the film. We had shots of Poire Williams in Switzerland and we called them ‘little willies’!! Will certainly look out for the film now you’ve mentioned it

Poire Williams is my hubbies favourite and one of the reasons he prefers to use Air France across the Atlantic (they give a digestif at the end of meal service and Poire is their default choice) 🍐

You can’t beat a drinks cabinet. It’s so civilised.
We must maintain standards. Will you be sourcing a French cabinet for drinks in the atrium? (to be sipped whilst lounging on swan-adorned daybeds?)

I love it and the bottles within, drinks cabinets seem to be going out of fashion but this would certainly change people’s minds, who wouldn’t want this in their home? The cold snap has been brutal, what a shock to the system, even here in Charente Maritime, we have dropped a good ten degrees, we have had to light the fire at night and many people had a frost last night, I hear tomorrow will be much warmer and it’s over, I certainly hope so! I always knew April was a fickle month!!

What a gorgeous cabinet- I love the sunburst motif. Is it a particularly English design?

I don’t know about that so much, but the cupboard just feels strangely reserved in its proportions, despite the huge sunburst motif. It was made by hand to house a stereo and it sits very well right here 🙂

Late deco in style. You can think of the transition from one to the other as curves being straightened out and becoming angles. Mucha is pure nouveau, and the Empire State is pure deco 😉
